An Oregon Icon for 115 Years
In January of 1908, 115 years back, the Balch opened its doors to travelers passing through the Dufur Depot of the once-thriving Great Southern Railroad. As both rail travel and the agriculture of the area evolved, the Balch adapted, too, taking on many different forms and lodging thousands of unique travelers over more than a century. The brick Italianate hotel continues to operate as a historic icon of north-central Oregon, and we hope welcomes curious travelers for years to come.
After our traditional 3 week break at the start of every year, we are thrilled to open the 2023 season — and the Balch's 115th year — this coming January 20th, with live music from Robert Sarazin Blake. Whether local or passing through, please join us and enjoy the Balch the way it was meant to be experienced: connecting with others traveling through this life!
Indie Folk from Robert Sarazin Blake
We're excited to welcome back our friend Robert Sarazin Blake for our season opening celebration! Robert is a folk singer-songwriter and master storyteller. Hailing from Bellingham, WA, his music is a melding of genres with elements of traditional Celtic, post-punk, country, and blues all blended together with a heavy dose of improvisation.
This event has limited seating and is likely to sell out — please plan to call ahead. We'll make sure there's a seat with your name on it!
