Balch Bounty: Super Saturday Supper Series for December: We’re excited about the menu, it sounds stupendous. Chef Jason Barwikowski (formerly of Vintage Grill at Hood River Hotel and The Woodsman in Portland) is putting together a fantastic farm to table feast.

Start with a glass of wine from our local wineries, and enjoy a complimentary appetizer course, as you visit with friends and other guests in the lobby. Then, savor a 3 course seasonal, local, meal with suggested wine pairings from local wineries.

Menu includes: Bitter greens, with roasted wild mushrooms and winter vegetables and pancetta-sherry dressing, whole roasted loins of Oregon albacore and Corona beans with spicy tomato broth, and grilled bread. Apple panna cotta dessert. Details on our events page here.

December 12: Dufur Hometown Christmas Come early to dinner and experience our small-town classic Dufur Hometown Christmas. Hear live music by the Dufur Boys at 3:30 at the Balch and then have front row (warm!) seats for the lighted tractor parade right out our front doors! Earlier in the day there’s also a Christmas bazaar, photos with Santa, and special seasonal treats offered at Kramer’s Market and the new Dufur Community Center. Reserve your room early this sells out.

Enjoy a wine and cheese Innkeepers reception, then an elegantly simple Christmas feast, updated with artisanal flair. Mostly locally sourced.

New Year’s Eve 2015: Dinner and Story Slam at the Balch. We’re picking up an old Balch tradition of storytelling on New Year’s Eve, ala The Moth Radio Hour. (Are you an NPR fan too?) The theme this year: “As if by Magic”

But first: meet and mingle in the lobby for complimentary appetizers and wine/beer from our local list, Then in our dining room Chef Jason B is offering a fabulous 3 course feast. (Menu on its way, but we know it will be yum!). We’ll play a silly/inspiring game. Then we’ll retire to the parlor, where we’ll lounge with celebratory beverages and listen to stories spun from gathered guests. We’ll even vote on the best one (Prizes? Yet to be determined.)
