Hood River's First Certified Organic Vineyard & Winery offers an extensive award winning wine list, with varieties to suit every palate. Visit our spacious tasting room and sample from our historical backbar, relax with a glass next to the fireplace, or enjoy a picnic with a bottle and an antipasto platter on the terrace.

This area is a shared use corridor. There is access to ungroomed ski trails and groomed snowmobile trails. Snowmobile trails groomed regularly by the Columbia Gorge Power Sledders Snowmobile Club. Parking lot has space for 40 vehicles. Trailers are OK.

Cross-country skiers from Portland usually aim first for Mount Hood because it's easy to reach. But they soon learn crowds are smaller and snow may be better elsewhere. So go ahead and begin with the West Leg Trail at Government Camp. Then, for variety, venture farther afield to Wolf Run near Dufur and Wind River near Carson, Wash.

FROM THE UNIQUE COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, Maryhill Museum of Art collects, presents and preserves art and historical and natural resources, to enrich and educate residents and visitors of the Pacific Northwest.

The multimedia, interactive museum inspires appreciation and stewardship of the natural and cultural treasures of the Gorge and Wasco County. Exhibits focus on the volcanic upheaval and raging floods that created the Gorge, the unique flora and fauna of the region, and eleven thousand years of cultural history. Collections include hundreds of American Indian baskets from throughout the Pacific Northwest, photo archives (partially available on-line), and local genealogical files available in the William G. Dick Library. In addition to touring the many fascinating exhibits, visitors can spend time viewing films in the theater located on site. If you plan to spend the day at the Discovery Center and Museum, you can relax during a lunch or coffee break at the Basalt Rock Cafe.

Don't miss it. WAAAM has one of the largest collections of still-flying antique aeroplanes and still-driving antique automobiles in the country. The items on display at this museum are not only full of history... they're full of LIFE! Aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles, tractors, military jeeps and engines all get their day in the sun again at WAAAM.

The History Museum’s father organization is Hood River County which provides a major portion of the day to day operating costs and one full time paid staff person. This person serves as Museum Coordinator for Hood River County and Director of The History Museum. The History Museum’s grandfather organization is the Hood River County Historical Society and The Pioneer Society which began collecting artifacts in 1907. The current museum building was opened to the public in 1978 and was built from generous community support and donations. Educational programs, special events and archive collection materials are supported through private donations, contributions, museum memberships and grants. A dedicated group of over 50 volunteers provide the labor force behind all of the teamwork needed to accomplish the museum’s mission in the community including serving as docent greeters. This loop will take you from Dufur up over Flag Point Lookout, over to Highway 35 and down into Hood River. From Hood River you'll be on the old highway (HWY 30) as much as possible and will return back to Dufur on some nice back roads (all paved). The Dufur Threshing Bee is a wheat harvest, done using old-time machinery and draft horses, as you would have seen at the turn of the 20th centry. This year's Threshing Bee is August 11th & 12th. A schedule of events will be posted when available, and the cost is free (though donations are always accepted).

If you are anywhere close to Oregon during the time the annual Northwest Cherry Festival is being held and attend this event once, chances are, you are almost sure to come back the next year. Through its nine days of fun and entertainment you will see what we mean. Enter yourself in the Cherry Bike Ride, The "Its the Pits" Lip Sync contest or maybe the Cherry Festival walk/run. The Annual Northwest Cherry Festival begins with the annual Lip Sync Contest and continues with the Parade on Saturday, Classic Car Show and the Streetfest on Saturday, with parade, vendors & live music downtown in The Dalles Oregon.

Strap chains to the truck tires, drive half way up the eastern slope of Mount Hood, heft on a backpack full of gear, dry clothes, food and maps, and ski eleven miles through the forest. Ready for a rest? A single bed awaits, sixty feet up the lookout tower. If this sounds like fun, then Flag Point Lookout is the destination for you! The cabin is atop a 60 foot tower and is surrounded by a wooden catwalk. The 14 x 14 foot room is furnished with a small, single bed, a wood stove for heating, and a table and chair, and is equipped with a propane cook stove and a solar lighting system. There is no water on site; visitors must bring plenty for drinking, cooking and washing. An outhouse is located near by, as well as a shed stocked with firewood. A rope and pulley system is available to transport gear, as well as firewood, up and down the tower with ease.

Ponderosa pines, Douglas-fir and western hemlock provide a dense canopy over the mountainside, shading numerous creeks and providing a lush and varied habitat at Fivemile Butte. While hiking the many trails, be sure to have binoculars on hand and watch for golden eagles, wild turkeys, grouse and the brilliant blue flash of camp robbers, common nickname for stellar’s jays. Other wildlife, such as elk, deer, coyote, cougars, and bears frequent the area and visit the nearby creeks for a drink or a meal.

The Historic Columbia River Highway is an approximately 75-mile (120 km) scenic highway in the U.S. state of Oregon between Troutdale and The Dalles, built through the Columbia River Gorge between 1913 and 1922. As the first planned scenic roadway in the United States, it has been recognized in numerous ways, including a listing on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark, designation as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers, and considered a "destination unto itself"as an All-American Road by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation.

One of Oregon's secret hideaways is located just east of Tygh Valley along Highway 216. The White River plunges 90' over a basalt shelf. The park offers excellent viewpoints of the White River falls. A rugged quarter-mile trail takes hikers down deep within the canyon to the historic hydroelectric power plant at the base of the raw, churning power of the falls. The power plant supplied electricity to Wasco and Sherman Counties from 1910 until the completion of The Dalles Dam in 1960.

The Baldwin Saloon is a favorite restaurant and gathering place in The Dalles Oregon. We make everything from scratch, from the breads and pastas, all the way to the twelve desserts – even the ice cream! Authentic Old World Tastes of Italy

We buy our fruits, vegetables and meats from local farmers and ranchers whenever we can. Most of our beef, lamb and pork comes from Mountain Shadow Natural Meats in Dufur, just around the back side of Mount Hood. The meat is fresh, and raised without added antibiotics and hormones, and fed all vegetable feed, and very little grain.

In 1996, a small group of friends came together to share their passion for food and pastry from their home country, France. Soon after, they decided to open La Provence Bakery & Bistro, located in Lake Oswego, Oregon. By popular demand, and to accommodate a growing wholesale bakery, they opened a second shop on SE Division Street in Portland, Petite Provence Boulangerie & Patisserie. This location has a special glass door in the dining room so you can see the bakery at work. An opportunity arose to expand to The Dalles, Oregon, and in 2007, Petite Provence of the Gorge was opened for business. The newest member of the family is Petite Provence on NE Alberta Street in Portland. Located in the heart of the Alberta Arts District, Petite Provence is excited to be part of this up-and-coming neighborhood. As a group of restaurants, we try to keep our menus and offerings similar, while still allowing our chefs creative freedom to give each location its own special character.

The Deschutes River State Recreation Area is a tree-shaded, overnight oasis for campers. The sparkle-laden, swift, green rush of the Deschutes converges with the Columbia here, and there's no better place for family outing activities like hiking, mountain biking, camping, rafting, world-class steelhead and trout fishing, and equestrian trail riding.

Hood River Golf and Country Club was established in 1923. The original front nine was designed by H. Chandler Egan (Eugene CC, Tualatin CC, Oswego Lake CC). Your experience at Hood River Golf will begin in the original farmhouse from the late 1800’s. The front nine is a relaxed stroll with Mt. Hood always in the backdrop. The back nine (built in 1995) is an adventure through the trees on the upper side of the 300 acre property, with magnificent views of the surrounding vineyards and orchards. Attached to the clubhouse is the tasting room for local winery, Phelps Creek. Stop in the Clubhouse Bar & Grill for lunch and drinks to round out your unique Columbia Gorge golf experience.
